Last year saw the rise of mental health awareness, and the term self-care seemed to be everywhere, and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. Although popular sayings and words are often seen as a trend, when it comes to both mental and physical health; it’s crucial that they become and integral part of society, and people’s lives. People are beginning to better understand the importance of prioritizing their happiness and wellbeing, over saying yes to everything and everyone, in order to keep up with what they’ve been comparing themselves to.

Life goals are shifting, places of work are becoming more accommodating with flexible hours and available healthcare; however, there’s still plenty of work to be done. You can start by focusing on yourself. It’s so easy to get stuck in a rut, and before you know it, you’re suffering the detrimental effects of stress and fatigue. Therefore, it’s time to take your own self care seriously, and stop thinking about it as a social media trend. The following are some ideas for those who need a boost regarding putting their mental and physical health before everything else that life throws at them, for a happy future ahead.


Stop Putting It Off

When you feel like your schedule is overwhelming, and you simply have no free time; it can be challenging to address any physical or mental issues you’ve been suffering. More often than not, health problems can be ignored and pushed to one side; however, the longer you leave them, the worse they’ll become. Addressing them as soon as possible will allow you to get the right treatment. And, while it might involve some time out to seek help, or recover; you’ll be far better off in the long run, and it will no doubt increase your productivity. Therefore, whether you need to look into reputable orthopedic surgeons, find an emergency dentist, or seek out a therapist; do it now, and stop putting it off. You’ll never regret getting a problem fixed, even if it causes minor inconvenience in the short term.


You Can Learn To Say No

This is a tough one for many, but learning when to say know can improve your wellbeing and is an excellent form of self care. You are not letting anyone down if you choose to go straight home after work, rather than go out for drinks with your colleagues. If you’re feeling tired and drained, or have just recovered fro an illness or operation; it’s time to choose a bath and some Netflix before bed, rather than a night out with friends or family. Those that care will understand; just be honest and explain how you’re feeling so that you can utilize your free time doing what makes you feel the best. You don’t have to go off-radar, but, taking time for just yourself regularly, should become part of your lifestyle. You can’t pour from an empty vessel, so make sure that you’re topping yourself up with rest and mindful activities, as much as you can.
